The Shinobi
Physical Description: Kana is a slender girl, lean muscle lining her limbs and abdomen. However, she has still retained a beautiful, roundish face, giving her an adorable look. She has a very light complexion, lighter than most. Her hair is platinum blond, often giving off a pink, golden, or even white tint in the correct lighting. She wears it very long, trailing far past her hips, with two shorter locks on each side of her head. These shorter locks are almost always braided. Her big eyes are blue as can be, and her lips usually light pink with gloss. The young girl is absolutely gorgeous, and if she wasn't who she was, boys would most certainly be flanking her at all times, trying to score a chance with the little beauty. Alas, she is in fact herself, so no such thing occurs.
Hidden under her layers of clothing are burn scars, marks that she has shown absolutely no one. There are several small ones along her forearms, and right leg, but perhaps the most prominent one is the scar that covers her entire mid back and curls around her side, just brushing her stomach. The second more prominent is one her right leg. It is a long burn, wrapping around from just above her knee all the way down to her ankle. It curls around her leg like a think vine, caused by a flaming curtain getting caught on her. Not even her closest friend has seen these...
Clothing/Gear:
Here:
Kana has a rather... interesting choice of outfit. As she wears such a wide diversity, let's just start from the top...
The girl wears a black tank top and a loose black shoulder less shirt for a top. The tank top has the normal spaghetti straps around the shoulders, but also have two sleeves covering just the forearms that attack. The bottom portion of the tank is almost like a beautified suit, yet more girly. It is black with white rims. The shirt is totally black with a few small white designs on the front and back, the most prominent being a small white circular design to the left (when facing her) of the shirt.
Her black headband tied very loosely around her neck. Along with her headband, the girl also wears a much tighter choker-type necklace, made of black velvet. In the center of the piece is a small silver trinket shaped like a mix of an S and a lightening bolt. She also wears a ring on her right index finger (when facing her). It is golden with a small blue-green gem ion the middle of it. Her braids are held together by small sliver slips, rather than rubber bands.
For bottoms, she usually wears a hot pink short skirt, though the color can be nearly red on some days. Down her right leg (when facing her) is a black tights-like stocking that goes from her mid-thigh down covering her foot. On her left leg is a small black band with a white spot in the middle located a bit higher than where the black stocking stops on the other leg. On her left shin, starting a bit lower than half-way, is a second, shorter black stocking. It is a bit thicker than the other, as well as with two white rims around the starting of it.
For shoes, the girl has a pair of white boots with pink buckles and soles, the same color as her skirt. the leg of the boot is actually split into four pieces, connecting a little bit above the ankle and held up by the pink buckles.
Personality: Kana is a quiet child, her loud, exuberant side beaten out of her long ago. Whereas her best friend took to being a hyperactive prankster, the teen reverted to a soft-spoken, shy kind of individual. After all, they may both be Jinchuuriki, but her upbringing was just a little more... violent than his. The girl doesn't get truly upset about many things anymore, just a bit depressed. Tears are a feat for Kana; sometimes she can't even remember how to cry. She also has a very high pain tolerance, which has led many to wonder just what she went through as a child. It doesn't help that she shies away from people in dark clothing, especially those in her apartment complex, or that fire absolutely terrifies the poor girl.
Fire is perhaps one of the only things she truly fears. Even lamps with a burning flame will spook Kana. Ironic that her last name is Kasai, no? This is one of her very few weaknesses. The sight of fire causes her to want to freeze up like a deer caught in headlights, though she is usually is able to power through. Many people overlook this small detail, though those closer to her would surely pick it up. Her hatred of flames are the very reason she does not have any lamps in her house, but rather many windows to let in sun and moonlight.
She has her moments, though, when she is utterly down. Sometimes these moments last for minutes, sometimes for days. Her longest little episode was just over a week, and during that time span, she refused to show her face to anyone but Komizu. When Kana is in a mood, nothing can bring her out of it. During these times, the entire village is her enemy, the Jinchuuriki despising anyone and everyone (besides her best friend). She doesn't cry, no, but she does rage, rant, flip tables, and break things. Dark thoughts, so awful as to be scary, plague her mind those days, but she never shares them.
Her past is an extremely sensitive subject. She never speaks of it, not even to Komi-kun. She'll never forget what happened to her, and she'll probably never let it go. Oh, Kana tries to forget, tries to move on, but the truth is that her attempts are futile. She'll always wake up screaming some nights. She'll always relive those memories, sometimes so vividly she thinks she's really there. The faces will forever haunt her. And that voice will never leave her alone. If she even mentions some detail about her history, you are so very lucky, but if she were to tell you the story of her life... 'Luck' doesn't even apply here.
Secretly, the girl is a bit of an insomniac, nightmares of her past haunting her sleep. She is also slightly (lol 'slightly') anorexic, sometimes going days without eating a thing. Much of her size is actually made up of muscle, though that little tidbit is kept to herself.
She is a rather happy person though, most of the time. Well, not exactly 'happy' so to speak, but content anyway. Activities such as pranks do not interest her as much as one of her comrades, though she still loves to tag along and watch for amusement. She's very shy, a master of 'think before you speak', and would much rather hide than give a big, public speech. It's almost as if she is in a little shell, refusing to inch out. She doesn't trust easy. It's not so much that she holds grudges, but 'forgive and forget' has not been of use to her since she was 4. A lot of times, Kana fakes it. A lot of times, she isn't really happy, but she pretends to be so the world won’t know she is weak.
However, around the ones whom she has formed a true bond with, she is a bit louder. She can be a bit wild and random at times, even going as far as setting a small prank herself. She's that girl who throws popcorn during movies and pokes her friends to annoy them. This girl ONLYcomes out around true friends though.
In battle, Kana is quiet and deceptive. Deadly. She prefers dark medical jutsu to the 'mainstream' ninjutsu, her chakra control impeccable. It's a wonder how she maintains such perfect control over the chakra, considering she has too much, though that in itself is also linked to her past. Unless you are epically important and trusted, she will completely ignore any questioning to her control. Her intelligence is phenomenal, surpassing most around her. However, she not only retains knowledge, but applies it. Reading and studying has supplied her with a vast expanse of knowledge, something she cherishes deeply. As she has said many a time, "Knowledge is the deadliest weapon when used properly."
Likes: Sweet things, ramen, Komizuzu-kun, reading, writing, singing, Konoha, movies, popcorn, animals, dango Dislikes: Fire, the colors black (though it seems not to apply, since most of her outfit is the color) and white, Konoha, the villagers, sleeping, eating
Background:
Spoiler:
Fourteen years ago, there was an attack on a village known as Konohagakure no Sato. Buildings were destroyed, lives were lost, and half the village was burned to the ground. The culprits? The Six-Tailed Gobi and the Nine-Tailed Kyuubi. They were eventually subdued, sealed within two unsuspecting newborns.
The very same day, two children were born. They were both blond-haired and blue-eyed, both smiling and innocent, and both perfect matches for the bijuu. And so, they were made Jinchuuriki. Their names were Komizu Odai and Kana Kasai. Komizu became the Jinchuuriki of the Kyuubi, and Kana, the Gobi. Orphaned at birth, the children were separated and placed at opposite sides of the village.
Immediately, a law was passed. In an effort to give the children a normal life, the Hokage declared it illegal to speak of the two youths housing the demons. As of today, no one under 17 knows, regardless of their rank as a ninja. However, this did nothing to squash the general resentment of the villagers, and so they grew up in a world filled with loathe...
Kana "Kay" Kasai, a little blue-eyed blond girl, was orphaned from her first breath. Her father had been killed in the attack of the two bijuu, and her mother died giving birth. Less than a day old, she was made the Jinchuuriki of the Six-Tails. The girl was alone from the start, and would remain that was for years to come. Being a demon holder, the girl was seen as the ultimate danger. People considered her to actually be the Gobi, rather than the hero who held it, and she was treated like scum for that very reason. However, she was never told why she was hated so, nearly driving her insane with self-hate and exasperation. Her future friend, Komizu, may have also been a Jinchuuriki, but her childhood was just a bit (more like a lot) more violent than his...
During her first year of life, the girl was raised under the direct care of the Hokage and a few trusted, high-up ANBU members. Kay was treated with respect that she no longer remembers, and looked upon like a normal child. However, a little while after she turned one, her entire life began to crumble.
At the mere age of one year old, the girl was put into an orphanage. From then until she was about four, Kana was moved from orphanage to orphanage, none finding a good home for the toddler or even putting up with her for longer than a few months. The caretakers were cruel and the children wouldn't go within 10 feet of her. Even the ugly, disgustingly pale, annoying kid with the greasy, almost afro-like purple hair and boogers looked down on her, though she didn't exactly mind his absence, so to speak.... Some threw rocks, and she was blamed for everything. Deprivation became ordinary custom to the child, her mind and bod adapting to days on end with no sleep or sustenance. These skilled ended up carrying out throughout the years, the girl often asked about how she managed to survive on so little. At around four years old, the supply of orphanages ran out, and she was moved to an apartment.
It turned out that she lived in the rather... shadowy area of the village. They had wanted to keep the Jinchuuriki in separate sections of Konoha, and it just so happened that Kana got the slums. After all, it was the council that decided their fate. Her apartment was a small one, the complex itself rather shady. She quickly grew accustomed to the stench of alcohol (not that she liked it, just put up with it), but there was another downside that she still, to this very second, has never gotten used to. That, my friend, is the violence. Whether it was brawls between drunks or one of the many punches directed at her, she never adapted to it. She never understood why adults beat up little children, even if they were demons in their eyes. Things were stolen from the child often, and her neighbors (a violent drunk on one side and a sick drug head on the other) just loved to pay her visits.
She was used to pain after a mere month of life in this hole, dealing with bruises and cuts becoming second nature to the girl. Unlike the other Jinchuuriki of the village, the child was not blessed with accelerated healing abilities. Instead, she'd learned to treat herself. She'd quickly learned how to stop severe bleeding, making normally fatal wounds only long-lasting. How many times had she been stabbed in the back, both figurative and literally, she couldn't tell. Once she had to set her broken shin by herself, because the hospital refused to treat a 'demon child'. That had killed her inside, but she lived through it. Never once did she fight back, though. It only made it worse. So, she suffered in silence, never telling a sole.
The girl grew to hate everyone and everything, going as far as contemplating leaving the village or even just committing suicide to end it all. Actually, she had tried to take her own life several times (though many years later), though she always chickened out at the last second. She still has scars, some still pink from more... recent ‘attempts’ – although, they ‘might’ really be a sort of addiction… - , though they stay hidden under the clothes covering her body. In her little mind, she felt (and still feels) the village would be better off without her, for they said so countless times.
Time passed agonizingly slowly. Often her orphan loan from the Hokage would get 'lost in the mail', though she knew the true meaning behind those words. Several times she tried to enter the academy, trying to earn more money, but they never let her, saying she was too young. Bull. There were three year olds in the Academy; okay, so she might have spied a little bit (but just a little!)... A year passed in melancholy, the only activity being the drunks' violence and that one time an angry mother chased her with a broom. (O-O) However, the day she turned five changed her life forever.
It was a cold October day, her fifth birthday. It started off normal. Kana got up, brushed her hair and teeth, and ate the last slice of bread for breakfast. Figuring it was time again to buy more food, she opened her door to leave. However, one step through the door and she slammed head-first into something big and strong. Immediately scared, the girl looked up. She locked eyes with an evil, smirking face, and suddenly her mind went black.
When Kana awoke, she was in a dark cell. Her hands were handcuffed behind her and chained to the wall, and she was stuck in a very uncomfortable half-laying, half-sitting position. The girl couldn't see two feet in front of her face, and she must have sat like that for hours. Just as her eyes finally adjusted to the ultimate darkness, a door she'd not known existed opened, flooding blinding white light into the small room. Her agony had begun.
The first two or three weeks were not extremely bad. The girl was usually left alone, the most severe thing being the utter lack of food and water. The annoying position she was locked in made for an awful lack of sleep, and what rest she did get was riddled with nightmares. However, it was only a little worse than her situation back in the village, so she made do. It wasn't until a little while after her first few weeks that things started to take a turn for the worst.
Her time after that was, in a word, Hell (not used as a cuss). She had thought she knew pain before, but she was dead wrong. Countless were the times that Kana had passed out, unable to take anymore. Most of you have seen the Chuunin Exam arc, in which Sasuke got his curse mark. Imagine that pain times 2, everywhere. That was every day. But you see, this was only a seal. They are known in the Shinobi world as torture seals, and are usually only used during intense interrogation. Her captors knew of the Gobi sealed within her, and they knew she didn't. They used this to their advantage, psychologically exasperating the poor child. They spoke things like, "Show us your true power, child, and we will set you free~" and "You are a monster; Let it out!" She nearly went insane from their words, so completely confused.
That wasn't the worst it got, though. After just a few months of deprivation and what they referred to as 'conditioning', they decided to up their tactics. Apparently, they had some Medical and Fuinjutsu, as well as various poisons and serums, that needed testing, and what better subject than the demon girl? That's when Hell turned into the Devil's own living room. She had assumed the torture seal was the worst it could possibly get for her, but once again, she was wrong. They began gruesome experimenting, more than once nearly ripping the bijuu from her body. Every day, every hour, every second, she was walking the fine line between life and death. They could almost see the Reaper standing by her bedside, touching her face when they would begin their experiments again. However, they always had a healing serum being pumped into her veins. Only her worst wounds scarred, and even then, you would have to look for them to notice. She actually died, legally anyway, several times, but the healing serum brought her back.
Despite the disappearances of the physical scars, the mental and emotional ones remained. Kana grew detached from the world, delusional and bordering on insanity. They might leave the room for weeks, leaving her alone with minimal food and water, but she was always being tortured in her mind. It never stopped for the child. They were always there, always hurting her. In fact, there are still times, after all these years, that she thinks she is back in that room. She'd never forget.
Then, a year after her initial capture (Kana had only just turned 6 a few days prior), they began the project. It was ingenious, really. Every single aspect was thought out to the tiniest proton of every atom in every cell. A work of pure incredibility, this single operation, if successful, would make them famous beyond their wildest dreams. It was nearly impossible, and a single wrong move in the right place could kill the subject instantly. They were going to rewire a chakra network. It was not just any chakra network though... It was the chakra network of a Jinchuuriki. If all went as planned, the child would have perfect control over her chakra, not a single flaw to be had anywhere. The catch?
They were preforming the operation while she was wide awake.
Despite the excruciating pain, it was a success. She was then one of the first Jinchuuriki in the history of the world that could retain absolutely perfect control over her chakra. Mastery of the medical field was opened, as well as genjutsu and fuuinjutsu. However, like with all miracles in life, a tragedy accompanied the success. That day, Kana Kasai lost her eyesight. She was pronounced blind an hour after her awakening.
Around this time, she began to hear a voice in the deep recesses of her mind. It called out to her, begged to let it out, and spoke of ways to leave this prison. Day by day, the voice grew louder, it’s deep, dark sound digging into her sanity and completely uprooting it. This, when paired with her blindness and constant pain, drove her past the brink and into full-on insanity. After four months of this haunting essence invading her mind, she gave in, and that was when crap hit the fan for her captors.
The crazy child succumbed to the secret demon within her, slipping into the Version One cloak. She never retained the ability to this cloak afterwards, though that may be blamed on her insanity at the time. The crazed girl literally snapped the chains holding her down and went on a rampage, killing anyone and everyone who dared try and keep her back. Then finally, after nearly 24 hours of consistent battle, she was free. Sun hit her mangled face for the first time in two years, but… she couldn’t see the light. She walked aimlessly for days on end, no sight or tangible memories to guide her home. Blood dripped her from her body as she collapsed, the cloak diminishing. However, she continued to battle in her mind, fooling herself into believing she was still fighting her ‘masters’. After a few hours of lying face down in the dirt, locked in a mental brawl, a pair of ANBU discovered Kana. They immediately rushed her into Konoha and to the hospital.
From there, she received the proper medical and psychological treatment, giving her proper mindset back. Still, she never really returned, her memories haunting her in both sleep and consciousness. After two months of reconditioning, she was released into the outside world. Her apartment was unlocked and she moved back in. Life was as peaceful as is could get for Kana, but that only lasted a few weeks…
The village was made aware of her return, and past hate burned throughout the settlements like wildfire in the dry season. Alas, emotions were not the only thing that burned, as they set fire to her apartment as she slept. The girl awoke to the sound of Voice screaming in her ear and the smell of smoke clouding her nose. Her mind jumbled and her senses fogged, the blind 6 ¼ year old did the only thing she could think of to escape the flames. She attempted to jump out of her window, but was tripped before she could. A flaming curtain wrapped its way around her leg and a board fell across her back, leaving her with awful scars. A few other burns dotted her skin, but none as sickeningly severe as those. After prying the flaming debris off her body, the girl jumped. She fell a single story, and was suddenly very glad she hadn’t an apartment on the upper floor. She was up and running as soon as she hit the ground, years of torture giving her a scary, nearly inhuman tolerance to pain. Actually, she was never aware of the extent of her injuries until people began screaming. It was then that she visited the village’s hospital, though she was only given minimal treatment. From there, she began life on the streets. She had not a fair, fighting chance, though, as this new section of her life was begun with a mangled arm and leg, as well as blindness and no one to lead her.
That night, the people began to refer to her as Zombie, or Dead Demon. It seemed as though she had risen from the dead in their eyes, as she had fled from her apartment at full speed, even while covered in normally crippling burns and slashes, her eyes having shifted from blue to glowing violet in her efforts (and due to Gobi-chan). That, and when paired with her completely appalling condition from her return only weeks before, gave the impression she had died and returned to life. Normal humans, even trained Shinobi, wouldn’t have been able to withstand her injuries or the pain caused by them, yet she had easily lived and ran. Many people later asked about the name, though she never answered. Although, for some reason, those two names were never used when Komizu was around…
She lived off of small robberies, and it pained her that she had to resort to such petty crimes. Alas, when you have not a penny to your name and no way to earn one, one must become creative. She was led only by the Voice, an entity she had yet to identify, for she had no light to show her the way. However, within four months from the day of the burning, she began to develop heightened senses. The world was once again opened, everything becoming clearer and clearer by the day. She began to read, fingers trailing over inked words and deciphering them with ease. She gained a vast set of knowledge with this pass-time, putting her far ahead of others in her age group. With this amazing new advancement in her life, the girl joined the Academy at 6 years, 7 months, three months before most join.
Well, it seemed that, not only did her captors give her perfect chakra control, but they had also given her genin-ranked abilities. Her Academy weeks – and yes, they were only a few weeks – went by in a blur. The Hokage himself ordered her to be tested, and she passed with flying colors. Against their will, the instructors were forced to pass her, and she was placed on a squad consisting of two twelve year old boys and a 22 year old male sensei. It was at that time that the six-nearly-seven year old realized good things never last too long, and she began to give up hope for a consistently better future. She was recorded as the youngest person to ever graduate the academy, her age at a staggering 6 years, 7 months and three weeks, two months and one week before most even join the academy.
Her teammates picked on her to no end for her age, for they had no idea the horrors she had experienced in her short life. Her sensei ignored her in favor of his other students, and the girl was left to train alone. That teasing previously mentioned quickly escalated into full-on bullying, and the girl never fought back. After all, less than a year ago she had been in the hands of monsters. Kana had learned not to fight back, and so she suffered in silence. However, she was secretly improving. Her solo training had begun to pay of hugely, her teammates unknowingly being left in the dust. Still, though, they knew nothing of her. These days were the days she began really contemplating suicide, and she almost did, until she met him. However, that meeting does not take place until after her next advancement…
Ah, but you see, life had this funny habit of throwing the worst of the worst at the too-tiny seven year old. The in-team bullying only worsened gradually until they took on the Chuunin exams. Kana was not even eight yet, a genin for less than a year. However, the exam flew by like a breeze. In fact, she actually had no trouble with the written exam, having correctly answered each question… without cheating, in her own words. The proctors were completely astounded with her mental capacity, already thinking of just handing her the Jounin jacket and telling her to scoot. However, they didn’t do that, obviously. The rest of the exam was even easier, her developing medical ninjutsu becoming completely invaluable to their team. It didn’t hurt, either, that she was already able to use it offensively. Unlike her only friend whom would be taking the exams in another six months, she was not afraid to kill. After all, once you’ve single-handedly murdered dozens of adult Shinobi with your bare hands after only recently turning six, a little death is nothing. Between her and her teammates, her hands were the deepest shade of metaphorical crimson. Days after the exams ended, the girl and the rest of her team were handed Chuunin flak jackets. At seven years, 4 months old, Kana Kasai was officially the youngest Shinobi to ever pass the Chuunin exams. (Please note that this age is technically only 4 months after Itachi would have become a genin. Yup, adda girl~)
Yet, much to her dismay, she was forced to stay and continue training with her abusive team. It seemed life was beginning to dip down for the girl again, even with her newest accomplishment. The bullying escalated into tormenting, and simple thoughts of suicide became drawn out plans. She went as far as tying nooses, yet the girl always chickened out and threw away the rope.
It was the day, in her mind. The newly-turned-eight-year-old was ready. A single, brand new kunai was clasped in one of her hands as she made her way back to her apartment. That was the day she planned to end it all, all her suffering and sadness. Yet it seemed fate was smiling upon her that day, as just as she was entering the slums, a boy crashed into her at enormous speeds. They were both knocked to the ground, and her kunai was sent flying. It seemed he never noticed it, as he just grabbed her hand and began soaring through the village. Eventually they reached the gates, and though Kana tried to pull away – her fear was still strong after only a year – he kept on going. They soon stopped, the sound of his pursuers having faded away long ago. They began to talk, and the pair hit it off. She realized he was quite similar to her in the way he was treated, though his background seemed to be a bit happier than hers, and finally discovered she was not completely alone. After that, their first few meetings were purely accidental, though they began to plan times to see each other. Before long, they were best friends, and Kana would have gladly (perhaps too gladly) given her life to save his. He ended up as the only good thing to remain in her life. Ever. Komizu saved her life, and though she vowed never to tell her friend why she was out that way (as not to scare him), she would be forever grateful.
Oh, the girl has never found out where that new kunai flew off to, though she heard reports of rabid dog miraculously dropping dead – just as he was about to attack a baby girl, too – after a random, flying projectile hit it exactly-center in the head. Hm, odd world.
Life was… brighter after that, even as her treatment grew worse on her team. Although she remained physically weak, her medical skills grew leaps and bounds. Somehow, having a friend made it feel okay, and her flashbacks to the past grew fewer and farther in between. Also… she had stopped attempting or even thinking of suicide, and the Voice had left her alone. However, life just couldn’t stay happy for the Chuunin, now could it? She was about eight and a half, give or take a few months, when her team was assigned a mission. This mission was S-Ranked, her Team 5 chosen only because the higher ninja were all busy. To take this mission would have been suicidal on her sensei’s part, but against her better judgment (and constant jabs and jibes), he accepted.
And so, they set out. Their job was to find, challenge, and eliminate a group of high ranked missing nin that had been terrorizing nearby civilian villages. Locating the base was relatively easy, for they had taken absolutely no precautionary measures against invaders, but it seems that the mission briefing had been wrong about their numbers – dead wrong. They had been told that it was a mere handful of Shinobi, while in reality... There were so many. Her team fought the opposers in an open field, and they won… But barely.
At the very end of the battle, there was one enemy, Kana, and her two younger teammates left alive. The grunt, nearly shaking on his feet, ran towards Kana, his kunai positioned for a fatal hit. At the same time that Kana readied what would have been both a block and a fatal attack, one of her teammates started running towards the grunt. Apparently he’d… had a change of heart… at the last second. What happened then was in slow motion. Kana shoved her hand towards the man, a deadly, dark-medical chakra dagger in her fist, just as her teammate shoved him out of the way. Later on, she realized that he had not seen the girl forming an attack and had been trying to… protect her, but… As Kana’s dagger pierced through his chest, her face was splattered with the blood of her… of her… friend…..?
Everything after that was just a blur to the child. She heard three screams in her fogged mind, on the voice of a young girl and the others of two 14 year old males. One of the male screams was choked, filled with dying pain. He was… dead… before he hit the ground. Moments later, her other teammate had killed the final enemy, and was turning towards her. She would never forget the moments that followed, having been burned into her mind as her vision suddenly cleared.
Her last teammate, Ahiko, turned towards her. However, his hand was not raised to strike. Instead, he let his weapon fall to the ground, arms hanging limply at his side. “They… they’re all gone, Kana… They’re all gone… Yagami and Reiji-Sensei, and everyone… You killed Yagami, but… It’s okay… because…” he whispered brokenly. “Kana, people have so much blood… How… can you stand it…? You’re only eight… I’m so sorry…” Kana just looked on, her expression blank and eyes emotionless. They just now decide to be kind. NOW. AFTER SO LONG, SO MANY DAYS OF PAIN, THEY CHOOSE NOW TO ACCEPT HER. THE DAY THAT YAGAMI AND SENSEI DIE, THAT AHIKO IS SCARRED, THEY DECIDE TO TRY AND MAKE AMMENDS. WHY NOW, WHY TODAY, WHY MUST THEY WAIT UNTIL IT’S JUST. TOO. LATE.
“I can’t stand it, Ahiko, but I do. It’s hard, but I do it every day, and I have since… I guess, since the day I was born. Perhaps it’s because I’m blind that the blood doesn’t get to me, but still… Yes, I am blind. I guess I never really got around to telling you and Yagami, though Sensei knew. Why you chose today of all days to try and say sorry is something I may never know, but… I’m afraid you came a little too late…” she said quietly. Slowly she moved to her weapons pouch and withdrew a kunai, holding it carefully in her tiny hands. The boy just stared, uncomprehending, as he tried to move closer. Kana ignored his presence for a moment, watching as her life flashed before her eyes. It only served to propel her decision though, for all the snapshots were nearly horrifying. However, as the memory of her single smiling friend’s voice crossed her mindscape, she smiled regretfully. He’d have to learn to move on, somehow… Though she knew she couldn’t be that important to the blond. “Don’t watch, Ahiko… Go home to Konoha and be a hero, and let them know that the demon is dead. They will not weep. Do not tell the blond boy with the rest though, Komizu is his name. Tell him apart, because he will cry… He’ll be the only one who cries…” she muttered, her voice set and finalizing.
And with a final breath, she took the kunai and slit her own throat, the ringing scream of Ahiko the last thing she heard.

Kana would have succeeded in her suicide had her bijuu not pushed her into the Version One cloak, but once again, she did not retain the ability to access it freely. So she ended up awaking to silence and the too-strong smell of disinfectants. So… she lived… As her sightless eyes opened, a gasp was heard beside her. That gasp morphed quickly into a chocked sob, and suddenly, she was latched on to like a lifeline. The smell of the person grasping her was familiar, but… Ahiko. Right, this person was Ahiko. Why was he crying, though? He should have been angry that she was alive… “A…hi…ko…?” she croaked quietly, her raspy, high-pitched voice hoarse with lack of use. The sobs only intensified, and she tilted her head curiously.
“D-don’t… don’t EVER d-do that A-AGAIN, KANA!” he cried, grasping her even closer. The eight year old awkwardly patted his shoulder in response, her fogged mind swimming for answers. “Ahiko… Why are you sad…? You should have… been happy… that I died…” she said softly. His shoulders quivered above her, and he spoke so softly that she nearly missed it. “You idiot… I always cared... ouwas just too afraid of Yagami… I’m such a coward, please forgive me…” She did, and she let him cry into her shirt once she accepted.
From that day forward, Ahiko and Kana were close. She began to think of him as her big brother, and vice versa. Eight and a half years of life, with just two bonds to show from them. Kana was happy, truly happy, though.
A few weeks after she returned to Konoha, the Hokage visited Kana in the hospital. He handed her and Ahiko (who refused to leave her side) green vests and new headbands. They were for the success (as well as for payment for the trouble) of the mission. Now, at eight years, five months old, Kana Kasai was a Jounin – and not only that, but she was the youngest Jounin in the history of Shinobi.
She never told Komizu of her near-suicide, though, and hid the scar on her neck under a velvet chocker. Instead, she lied, and said her chakra had been exhausted. Really, the girl hated lying to her best friend so much, but if he knew the truth… She could hurt him, lose him forever, and that was something the girl would not be able to handle at all. She’d take her life before he finished the sentence, if only to die his friend.
It took around a month for Kana to fully recover, the girl not having been blessed with her friend’s amazing healing properties. After all, a severed wind pipe and vocal chords took a while to fix, and she was lucky she still had her voice at all. However, she was left with a permanent, if slight, speech imparity; her voice tended to crack as she spoke, and occasionally, she would not be able speak at all for a little while. She’d tried her hardest to keep this from Komizu, and usually succeeded. However, when her voice did crack or grow scratchy, she wrote it off as allergies.
After her bout of bed life, though, and another month of suicide watch, Kana returned to the ninja force with a vigor like never before. Her skills grew tremendously in a short amount of time, and in four more months she was peering down at a dolphin shaped mask. Why a dolphin, she never found out, but she liked it all the same. Somehow, she felt it suited her, and she wore it with confidence. Eight years, eleven months old and Kana Kasai was an official ANBU of Konoha. For the first time in a long time, she really felt accomplished, and defiantly bragged about her newest rankings to her friend, who was only just polishing off a Chuunin protector.
For a while after that, Kana slowed down. Life was okay, then. She was never really ambitious before, but now, she became even less so. She only trained to maintain her skill, not increase it. During the time that followed, she grew closer to Ahiko and strengthened her bond even further with her fellow Jinchuuriki. Missions were completed quite easily, her blindness not hindering her in the least. However, her life changed one chilly August morning, and not in a bad way at all.
She was sparring with Ahiko as she usually did, getting her morning jitters out before she accidently pummeled Komizu in a spar or broke her client on a mission. Everything was perfectly normal, normal except for their location. Normally, they would train on an open field for the lack on hindrances, but both had agreed they needed more practice in a forest scenario. So, that was where they trained, launching attacks and dodging effectively. However, something went wrong. Just as Ahiko launched a kunai towards her stomach, Kana tripped forward, her senses not having picked up a root on the ground.
The kunai whizzed by her face, slashing both of her opened eyes wide open. The pain was like nothing she had ever felt before, and she was rushed to the emergency in a fitful self-induced coma-like state. As she underwent hours of extensive surgery, the doctors discovered Kana’s original blindness, and also what caused it. For over a week after the surgery, the girl’s eyes were shut, but when she finally opened her unmarred orbs…
At 10 years, 7 months old, Kana Kasai saw light.
Life took on a new beauty. The grass was greener than she remembered it, the sky bluer and the clouds whiter. Although her heightened senses dulled to average, she was okay. She could see again… The first face she saw was Ahiko’s, and she had launched into his arms immediately, knowing already who he was from past descriptions and his heartbeat. Excluding the faces of the various nurses and doctors, she next one she saw was Komizu’s. She would have launched into his arms as well, except she had never told him of her blindness, and so she settled for grinning through her handful of tears and only breaking down on the inside. He certainly was handsome…
The third face she was her own, and she was shocked at how much she had grown, had changed…
And the fourth… The fourth was the Ramen Stand guy, because she had gone out to eat some with Komi later that day.
The next two years were like a dream, Kana the star of it all. At 12 years, 4 months, she was promoted to ANBU Captain, to which she took to like a moth to a flame. Another year passed nicely, but then her life flip-flopped again. Ahiko was sent out on a mission, and though he came back alive… It was like he was dead anyway. He was in a severe comatose state, and it was unlikely he would ever awaken. The only reason they never pulled the plug was because Kana threatened to murder each and every one of them with their own limbs if they even tried, and she was taken very seriously.
Kana stayed in her house for a week, not coming out to train, perform missions, or even pick up groceries. And she was not bothered, either.
A few months after that fateful incident, she requested a demotion to mere Jounin status, not seeing the point of being an ANBU for the time being. Her request was approved, albeit reluctantly. However, she was given a final ANBU mission, the time limit unset, that she would take on shortly before she turned 14, so in just a few months. She was to go undercover in a foreign village and try to gather if it was a threat or not. She accepted.
So, age 13, 9 months old, Kana set out on her journey. It was actually quite easy, for her acting skills were so immaculate, but the time it took to perform was tedious. However, there was one thing that, once again, spun her life on a total 360 and then some. Just as she was returning home, she overheard a conversation about ‘the nine Jinchuuriki.’ From a foreign traveler. They began with the One-Tailed Shukaku, of which she was already familiar. She knew each bijuu had a Jinchuuriki, yet she’d never learned who held the Five and Nine tails... Perhaps she would learn now. But… He was speaking of them as if they were the demons themselves, which she supposed is understandable…
“Kana Kasai, a young and very high ranking Shinobi of Konoha with a reputation twice her size, is the incarnate of the Five-Tailed Gobi., while the manifestation of the Kyuubi itself is…–”
Kana ran, and ran, and ran, finally breaking down somewhere in the forest. “He’swronghe’swronghe’swronghe’swong…” she chanted over and over again, until she heard a voice she thought had left her long ago. ‘No, he’s not…’ And Kana broke. Then, she set off towards Konoha again, eyes permanently widened and mouth hanging slightly agar. As of today, she is walking back, practicing her custom Iyaton on her own body with this new tidbit of information stuck in her mind and unable to be removed.
